Collection: Behind the Iron Curtain
In 1974, Irving A.J. Lawres traveled to the U.S.S.R. with a small group of American photographers from the Photographic Society of America (PSA). They were invited to document life behind the Iron Curtain in late Cold War-era Soviet Union. Irv and the group were granted unprecedented access to travel and photograph at will throughout the country, capturing rare glimpses of architecture, culture, people, streets, markets, transportation, and everyday life during this unique time period in Russia.
